Tracheostomy Safety

This course comprises 3 sessions and explains the knowledge and skills required to safely manage patients with a tracheostomy or laryngectomy. The learner is taken through the basic anatomical and physiological changes involved whilst explaining the procedures and different types of tracheostomy tubes and devices used in 'neck breathing' patients. Management of emergencies from the first responder through to advanced interventions are described using videos and diagrams. Routine management and 'troubleshooting' tracheostomy problems are covered in detail. The resources are aimed at the hospital practitioner, but are applicable to those based in the community.
